According to the Zagreb Tourist Board, tourist overnight stays in Croatia capital increased by 257 percent in December 2021 compared to December 2020. This means that over 161,100 tourists visited Zagreb in the previous month.

Despite the fact that Zagreb had a large increase in the previous month, the data indicates that the number of tourists who stayed in the city in December 2019 was still higher.

According to the Zagreb Tourist Board, the number of tourist overnight stays in December 2021 was 36% fewer than in the pre-pandemic period, specifically in December 2019, according to SchengenVisaInfo.com.

Apart from tourist overnight stays, the same reported that over 74,000 tourists visited Zagreb in the last month of 2020, a considerable rise over the same period in the previous year.

Martina Bienenfeld, the CEO of the Zagreb Tourist Board, commented on the data, saying that the positive results show that the transitional and hybrid editions of Advent Zagreb attracted a large number of visitors last year, while also emphasizing that Zagreb remains the country’s most popular destination.

Total Croatia News reports that Zagreb had the most international visitors from Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, and Serbia.

Tourists from Russia were the most likely to schedule an overnight stay in Zagreb, followed by those from Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Italy.

According to the same, more than 639,100 tourists visited Zagreb in 2021, representing an 85 percent increase over 2020.
