BERLIN (AP) — As the highly contagious omicron form spurs a dramatic spike in illnesses, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Germany’s 16 state governors voted Monday to maintain existing coronavirus limits in place and investigate how best to employ increasingly stretched PCR test facilities.
As omicron spreads, Germany has set a series of daily infection records in the last two weeks. The national disease control center reported on Monday that there were 840.3 new cases per 100,000 persons in the previous week. According to the health minister, the numbers are expected to peak in mid-February.
