France: As the omicron variant spreads around the globe, the European Union is beginning to impose additional limits.
All visitors from outside the European Union will now be required to show documentation of a negative PCR or antigen COVID-19 test done within 48 hours of their intended arrival, as well as proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
As a result of the discovery of the extremely infectious omicron version of the coronavirus, governments throughout the world are reevaluating their admission processes. Scientists are concerned that the variation contains multiple changes that might compromise the effectiveness of existing COVID-19 vaccinations.
“We are getting more worried by the day,” Gabriel Attal, a spokesman for the French government, told reporters on Wednesday. “We are not panicking but we have to be as careful as possible, ” he said, according to a Bloomberg report.
A negative COVID-19 test is also required from European visitors, although those traveling from Europe must test within 24 hours of arriving in France. Beginning Dec. 15, anybody who has gotten a one-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine will be required to provide proof of a booster.
