Germany has the greatest COVID daily death toll in nine months

As the Omicron form spreads across Europe, Germany has had its highest daily COVID death toll in nine months.

Hospitals have warned that by Christmas, the country might have 6,000 patients in critical care, up from the previous winter’s top of 4,000.

On Wednesday, Germany recorded 67,186 new COVID cases, up 302 from the previous week, and 446 fatalities, the highest daily amount since February 18, bringing the total death toll to 101,790.

Four persons have tested positive for the newly discovered Omicron coronavirus strain in southern Germany.

As Omicron worries grow, the EU head is considering making Covid vaccinations mandatory.

The Omicron strain of COVID-19 is causing an increase in COVID-19 incidence and infections in Europe.

At least 11 nations have already discovered the new strain, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and the Netherlands.

It has been classified as a variation of concern by the World Health Organization (WHO), and experts are concerned about its many mutations.

On Wednesday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the strain’s task a “race against time,” asking all parties concerned to “prepare for the worst.”

“You have read about the multiple mutations and what that might be,” she said at a press conference, “and we know from our experience with the Delta data variant that it is a race against time.”

Because many people have not been vaccinated, Von der Leyen believes that EU countries should consider making vaccines mandatory.
