The Finnish Immigration Service is preparing to create a fast-track service that will allow specialists and start-up entrepreneurs to receive an answer to their residence permit applications within two weeks.

According to the authority, the fast-track service is integrated with the national D visa, which is presently under review by Parliament, and the goal is to have this service fully operational for the previously listed categories and their families by June 2022, according to SchengenVisaInfo.com.

“The Finnish Immigration Service has actively participated in the preparation of the fast-track route and the D visa, and we are preparing to give our customers advice on the new, accelerated permit process,” Pauliina Helminen, Director of the Permit and Nationality Unit, said.

Applicants can submit and pay inquiries online using the fast-track approach, and the processing procedure will begin instantly if the forms are correctly filled out. The applications in this category are partially automated, as growing automation has been the primary means of speeding up application processing in Finland.

The national D visa, on the other hand, allows recipients to go to Finland as soon as their residence permit is issued. In addition, the Ministry of the Interior has debated a legislative proposal to broaden the D visa to include students and researchers from third nations.

“Customer guidance is important because also the customer needs to act quickly so that we will be able to keep our service pledge to decide on the application in two weeks. Customers are instructed with the help of frequent automated messages and clear descriptions of the application process,” Helminen explained.
