Portugal’s minimum wage will rise to EUR 705,00 gross per month, computed over 14 payments, on January 1, 2022.
Additional monies are available for dependents. An accompanying spouse or kid over the age of 18 should receive EUR 352.50 per month (50 percent of the required salary), and an accompanying child under the age of 18 should get EUR 211.15 per month (30 percent of the minimum salary), computed over 14 payments.
Permits that are impacted
The income threshold applies to Temporary Stay Visas and Residence Visas for Local Hires, but not to Highly Qualified Staff Residence Visas or the EU Blue Card.
Compliance
Both current permit holders and new applicants must meet the requirement.
Allowances and benefits
If the foreign national is on a home contract, the cost of living and housing allowances can be factored in, as long as they are sent to the foreign national’s bank account, paid monthly, taxable, handled through payroll, guaranteed, and set.
Reductions in pay
Except in the first and last month of employment or assignment, salary cannot be prorated.
Currency
Regardless of payroll location or currency fluctuations, the employer must ensure that salary payments match the EUR requirement.
