The inauguration of South Africa’s E-visa system South Africa’s Minister of Finance revealed on Thursday, November 11th. The proposed e-visa system, initially announced in 2019, will be ready for distribution to 15 nations in March 2022. The news was made by Minister Enoch Godongwana during his Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS).

What does this mean for intrepid travelers eager to see this country? The system is now operational for Kenyan and Indian travelers. The e-visa can only be used for tourism reasons.

Residents of formerly visa-exempt countries will be able to apply for a South African e-visa starting in 2022. While our borders are ostensibly open, travellers should be aware that there are restrictions in place, including required quarantine periods and/or the submission of a negative Covid-19 test.

While the apparent benefit would be a simple 20-minute online application from wherever you are, considering the harm the pandemic has done to the tourist sector, South Africans will profit enormously from a successful e-visa system deployment.

In the following year, we want to welcome visitors from China, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Mexico, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, and Kenya!
