All visitors to the United States must now produce proof of a negative COVID-19 test. The test has to be completed within one day of leaving.
This rule applies to all visitors, regardless of their immunization status or where they came from.
Travelers formerly had a 72-hour window to complete the test.
The new rule is one of a slew of policies aimed at halting the spread of the omicron COVID-19 strain in the US. Health experts revealed Monday that Omicron had spread to almost a third of the US states.
Pre-departure testing in the United States are governed by US regulations.
“The United States will tighten pre-departure testing methods by requiring all inbound foreign passengers to test within one day of departure internationally, regardless of nationality or vaccination status,” the White House said in a statement announcing the new restrictions.
The new laws will apply to all visitors to the United States, whether they are foreign nationals or citizens of the United States.
What type of COVID test is necessary?
The proof of a negative viral test will be checked by airlines. This might be a lateral flow antigen test or a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT).
It must be approved for usage in the nation from which you are departing. Before flying, you could, for example, do a PCR test (which employs an NAAT approach).
Home tests are acceptable if they are supervised by a telehealth provider that can observe you taking the exam, verify your identification, and comply with other federal standards.
