Following a streak of weekly rises, the World Health Organization‘s European area saw a modest decline in both COVID-19 infections and fatalities last week.
According to estimates from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, all 212 verified instances of the omicron variant discovered across 18 European Union nations up to that date had resulted in asymptomatic or moderate disease as of Monday. WHO warned that when more information on the omicron variety becomes available, its knowledge would “continue to evolve.”
In its weekly epidemiological report released late Tuesday, WHO said the weekly number of new cases in its 53-country European region fell 2% to more than 2.6 million new cases reported over the last week — with Germany and the United Kingdom reporting the most — and 29,000 new deaths — a decrease of 3% from the previous week.
